MEXICO CITY â" Â Mexico's Senate has approved bans on large cash transaction as part of a measure to fight money laundering.
The bill forbids sellers and notaries from accepting cash payments of over a half million pesos ($ 38,750) for real-estate purchases. It also forbids cash purchases of over 200,000 pesos ($ 15,500) for automobiles or jewelry.
Experts say the measure could help fight the estimated $ 10 billion in drug-money laundering that is believed to occur annually in Mexico.
But it is unclear whether the measure could also hurt the economy, many sectors of which have traditionally been based on cash.
The Senate passed the bill unanimously Thursday. It now goes to the president to be signed into law, and would take effect 90 days after it is published.

Most people say "pull the wool..." but in your context I would say they are talking about how the media is becoming controlled by a few corporations, and they only tell you what they want to; not the whole picture (compare Canadian news to American news, or even the difference in the Olympics coverage!) Have you noticed how TV news spends time on the cute pet of the week, or the weather which you can see out your window, instead of the death and destruction in Iraq-nam? Feel good or fluff stories [ "we reveal that tonight, on Desperate Housewives,...."] sell, and create profits, while "hard" news stories don't. Technology can seamlessly remove words, pictures, or data from broadcast information, so sometimes one wonders about the integrity of the news. Propaganda is when a newspaper (etc) only presents its point of view (ie is biased.) [Joke: When John McCain came to town and proved he could walk on water the liberal media headline was "John McCain cannot swim"] and the paper would not print any articles from people who had actually seen the event, thus kind of trying to deny it out of existence. [Consider the lack of real debate reported re Health Care Reform. How much do you REALLY know??]
