Police have raided three teachers' colleges occupied by protesting students and recovered dozens of hijacked buses in the western Mexican state of Michoacan.

Student protesters have been seizing buses and delivery trucks to protest changes in college curricula that would require them to take English and computer science classes.

The Monday morning police raids suggest that government patience is running out with the increasingly common violent occupations.

The Michoacan state government has confirmed the raids, and says dozens of buses and trucks have been recovered.

Elina Ambriz of the state press office says police have recovered one of the three campuses without incident. But local television has shown scenes of burning buses and police battling with students at another campus.
