Question by Steph: What do you mean when you say "the end of the world?" What are the humans significance in this? I have noticed that a lot of people refer to the extinction of humans and the ruin of civilization as "The end of the world." Why? Wont the earth still exist even if humans disappear? Am I missing something? Help me. When I think about the end of the world, I think of the death of the sun. Or the earth literally falling to pieces. Not the absence of humans. Wouldn't that be a good thing for the earth? Are humans the world? What do you think? Best answer for What do you mean when you say "the end of the world?" What are the humans significance in this?:

I think it means all gone, totally. No human or life at all. However I think the stupid cockroach will survive.

The end of the world as we know it, I think is implied, or the idea that Earth will finally be cleared for the intergalatic space bypass, which would really be the end of our little Earth-world. And in a way, yes, as individuals, the world is us as it is only our perceptions and interpretations that make it relevant and meaningful. The world as a material object continues on with or without us, but has no meaning when the meaning-maker ceases to be. We are fundamentally self-centric, because it is all we can understand within the limits of our physical form.

in my religion, certain signs indicate the gradual comming of the day of judgement. It will occur on a Friday, and the moon will crash into the sun. The bad people will starve and suffer; as the earth will be boiling hot! The good people will all fit under one giant shady tree to escape the heat and the wrath of god. An angel will blow on a trumpet, and everyone living will die. Then, he will blow on it again, and every person that ever existed, will come back to life to be judged...and sent to heaven or hell. (or hell, and then later heaven.)

for me "the end of the world" is a phrase with many meaning. who decide when the world ends? if you're a believer, then the answer would be God. God decides many things in this world. He said the world will come to an end one day, we as mere humans can only have faith and live our live as best as we could. the way we intepret it differs in believes. some say that an asteroid will hit earth and everyhting will crumble. some say that a huge plague will spread through the whole world. while ohters just let God decide what and when it happen. we, human can only go as far as our imagination. but god has spoken that the time will come. so, if you're a believer, then pray.. if you're a non-believer, then live your life to the fullest.

We are human-centric...but our existance is not necessary...it is actually detrimental to the world.

When people talk about the end of the world, they are referring to the end of civilization or the species orall life or an age of civilization or the Apocalypse or some other huge shift, it all depends on context.

Answer by Bill S
"the end of the world" is a existing judo-Christan religion term for the second coming of Jesus Christ based on the book of Revelation of the bible...it is still prevalent in churches today....it appears that religious organizations do not take other living organisms as part of the earth or in their therms "the world"

I take to mean the end of humanity. Think of it, we took million of years to evolve into what we are now. In real time and space, it is only in seconds that this has happened and so in seconds we will too disappear.

In a reversal, Mike Tyson has been denied entry to the country whose indigenous Maori people he says inspired his facial tattoo.

New Zealand authorities on Wednesday cancelled an entry visa for the former heavyweight boxing champion and convicted rapist, days after the prime minister spoke out against his planned visit.

The Las Vegas celebrity had earlier been granted an exemption to New Zealand immigration rules to speak at a November charitable event, "Day of the Champions." Tyson's 1992 rape conviction would have normally made him ineligible to enter the country.

Speaking to the APNZ news agency this week before his visa was canceled, Tyson said his tattoo was inspired by New Zealand's indigenous Maori culture. In pre-European times, many Maori wore elaborate facial tattoos as a sign of their status in their tribe. Some Maori today who identify strongly with their traditional culture get similar tattoos.

"Other than that I've never heard of Maori people so I'm looking forward to come down there and see them," he told the agency.

Associate Immigration Minister Kate Wilkinson said in a statement Wednesday that the original decision to let Tyson enter was "a finely balanced call" and that the charity that would have benefited from his visit had now withdrawn its support.

Prime Minister John Key spoke out against the planned visit this week, questioning the decision by immigration authorities and saying he personally disapproved.

Before his visa was cancelled, Tyson told APNZ: "Fortunately, I am coming to New Zealand and there's nothing they can do about it and I'm so sorry, I'm sorry they feel disappointed and I'm just living my life."
