PHNOM PENH, Cambodia â" Â Norodom Sihanouk, the former Cambodian king who was never far from the center of his country's politics through a half-century of war, genocide and upheaval, has died. He was 89.
Cambodian government spokesman Khieu Kanharith said Sihanouk died of natural causes early Monday in Beijing, where he had traveled for medical treatment.
Sihanouk saw Cambodia reel from colony to kingdom, U.S.-backed regime to Khmer Rouge killing field and foreign-occupied land to guerrilla war zone â" and finally to a fragile experiment with democracy.
Sihanouk was a feudal-style monarch beloved by his people. But he was seldom able to deliver the stability they craved through decades of violence.
He abdicated the throne in favor of his son Norodom Sihamoni in 2004.

Play "Pin the Plane on the Map" saying a different continent each round.

you could use puzzle maps with foam pieces and tell them stuff about each continent
Answer by Jonathan
you could make activities involving foods and animals from different countries/continents. also landmarks. maybe foods and animals more intersting for preschoolers i dunno.

If you can get one, a globe that shows topography, one where you can feel mountains, and valleys. Let the kids feel the mountains in different places around the world. Then when they have the idea, ask them what mountain feels tallest. Then do simple hand outs about each country, maybe with some pictures of the people or places in that country. Have them look at pictures and come up with ideas that they can draw or color about that place and the people there. Talk about the resources of that country. Now I wouldn't expect you to bring in gold or diamonds for them to play with, but maybe you could show them a ring or necklace that has those things. For other countries, maybe farm products, the local health food store probably has whole grains like wheat or rice you could show them. Any grocery store has things like corn and melons and gourds. Ask them about how they know these foods in their lives. If you have a bare patch of land, give them small trowels and have them dig little holes, ( large motor skills) and then plant seedlings or even seeds (small motor skills). If planting seeds, have them count to a certain number of seeds for each hole (say 3 seeds per hole. math skills) Again if you can do this, let them water the plants or seeds and watch them grow (science). I don't think I covered all your bases on this one, but maybe it's a start. Good luck, preschoolers are a hard group to keep interested and involved.

I taught a summer school class called "Art Around the World" for 5 and 6 year olds. Everyday we "traveled" to a different country and we would fix some food from the country, color in coloring pages with the clothes and the flag, listen to music from the country, learn how to say "hello" in the native language, play games that kids play in that country, and then we created art that you would find. But everyday before we did any of our activities, we would look at a short PowerPoint presentation I put together for each country to show them these things and we all sat on a carpet in my room (which was our airplane) while we watched it. I acted like we were getting on a plane when we went over to the carpet and told them to buckle up and get ready for our in flight movie. Sometimes we would watch little clips from the internet about the country too. We also made p assports so that they could get a "stamp" from each country. We also had a big laminated world map and everyday we would draw a line showing where we were going, from where we had been the day before. We "went to" China, Italy, Mexico, Egypt, Australia, Nigeria, Brazil and then at the end we went home to the United States and learned some things they didn't already know. Each day was a surprise as to where we went. If you do it with enough enthusiasm, they love it and learn a lot too!
