SEOUL, South Korea â" North Korea claimed on Tuesday to have missiles that can reach the American mainland, and it said that the recent agreement between Washington and Seoul to extend the range of South Korean ballistic missiles was increasing the risk of war on the Korean Peninsula.
North Korea has often threatened to strike the âheartâ of the United States, and a popular propaganda poster there shows a North Korean missile hitting what looks unmistakably like Capitol Hill. But the warning issued Tuesday was more detailed.
The North Koreans âdo not hideâ that their armed forces, âincluding the strategic rocket forces, are keeping within the scope of strike not only the bases of the puppet forces and the U.S. imperialist aggression forcesâ bases in the inviolable land of Korea but also Japan, Guam and the U.S. mainland,â a spokesman at the Northâs National Defense Commission said in a statement. North Korea often refers to the South Korean military as âpuppet forces,â a reference to the alliance with the United States.
The Northâs âstrategic rocket forcesâ are a unit believed to be in charge of the countryâs missiles. The Northâs leader, Kim Jong-un, visited the unitâs headquarters in March and mentioned it by name during his first public speech in April.
Estimating the missile capabilities of a country as secretive as North Korea is notoriously difficult, according to military experts and South Korean government officials. But they have said that the North has already deployed ballistic missiles capable of reaching targets as far away as Guam, the American territory in the Pacific.
In addition, North Korea has repeatedly launched rockets, which American and South Korean officials, as well as the United Nations Security Council, have condemned as a cover for developing and testing intercontinental ballistic missile technology. The North has insisted that the launches were intended to put satellites into orbit.
In 1998, a rocket called the Taepodong-1 flew over Japan and crashed into the Pacific. In 2006, the North launched the Taepodong-2, which exploded seconds after liftoff. It launched yet another long-range rocket, the Unha-2, in 2009; its first two stages appeared to work, but according to American and South Korean officials, the third stage never separated.
In April of this year, North Koreaâs Unha-3 rocket disintegrated in midair shortly after takeoff, a failure that Pyongyang publicly acknowledged.
But the North claimed to have successfully placed satellites into orbit in 1998 and 2009. The country has also conducted two nuclear tests, the first in 2006 and the second in 2009, although it remains unclear whether it can make a nuclear warhead small enough to fit atop a missile. Then-Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said in early 2011 that North Korea was within five years of being able to strike the continental United States with an intercontinental ballistic missile.
âEven if they failed to put the satellites into orbit, these rocket tests mean that the North Koreans may have already acquired the missile rangeâ that the North claimed to have Tuesday, said Jeung Young-tae, a military analyst at the government-run Korea Institute for National Unification in Seoul.
Mr. Jeung said the Northâs strident statement on Tuesday was driven in part by a domestic political need to highlight the purported threat from the United States and its allies. On Sunday, South Korea announced that it had reached a deal with Washington that would allow it to nearly triple the range of its ballistic missiles to 800 kilometers, or 500 miles, to better cope with the Northâs growing missile and nuclear capabilities.
On Tuesday, North Korea called the agreement âa product of another conspiracy of the master and the stooge to push the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the extreme pitch of tension and ignite a war.â
âWe should not forget even a moment that wolf never subsists on grass as long as it breathes,â it said, adding that the missile agreement disproved Washingtonâs insistence that it had no intention to invade the North.

Question by Jesus Lives: What is wrong with House on the show "House"? I never really watched the show "House" much. Why does House limp and take pain meds all the time?? Can anyone tell me his character's background? Why is he so irritable all the time? Best answer for What is wrong with House on the show "House"?:
Answer by sbdfhs
It's because he (Hugh Laurie) is English and the only way he can get away with doing an American accent is by pretending he is in pain!
Answer by I'm even cooler in person
motorcylcle accident=pain meds=pain killer the rest is his personality
Answer by Rich F
He was shot in the leg, and his wife (now ex-wife) had to make a decision about whether or not to save the leg. She decided to have the doctor save the leg, but because of that, he's in constant pain, and is addicted to Vicodin. He rides a motorcycle, but the leg pain wasn't caused by an accident. House was shot at the end of season 2, but that wasn't the initial cause of his leg pain - I stand corrected- thank you!

Near the end of season 1 (Three Stories), viewers learn how and why House limps and takes pain meds. However, some of his sarcasm was always part of his personality, however, he is grouchier because of his constant pain. In his past House suffered from a pain in his leg which was misdiagnosed as tendonitis. He was given pain medication and when he complained more he was considered that he was just wanting more meds for the high. But, it turns out, his leg pain was caused by a clotted aneurysm that led to an infarction causing muscle tissue to die and a vast amount of pain. At that point the doctors wanted to amputate, but House wouldn't let them. A bypass surgery was done as the story continues something was done when House was put under that left him a cripple in constant pain and Cuddy feeling guilty. It also ended his relationship with the love of his life which explains some of his bitterness since she approved what was done which was contrary to his instructions. It is one of the best House episodes, if you can try to catch it when it replays.... (USA channel frequently airs old house episodes). There were no gunshots or motorcycle accidents or anything else mentioned. Check out the recap to the episode in question listed below.
Answer by Insert Name Here.
LIMP & MEDS he had "an aneurysm that clotted leading to an infarction" in his leg. basically, he 'had a heart attack in his leg' and that lead to muscle death. (Episode 'Three Stories') BACKGROUND House is a very complicated person and you'd really have to watch the show on a regular basis (like myself) to even begin to know his character, sorry. IRRITABILITY Again, its just part of his character. His leg is also part of it. Cuddy makes him to clinic work. The patients annoy him.
